I'm Jamie Cohen, a high school student looking to transform my passions into businesses. I love photography, website design, and community service. Through my small businesses and my nonprofit organization, I am determined to achieve this goal. I am going to continue my studies on marketing at the University of Pittsburgh in fall 2021.
Website Design & Marketing
In the beginning of high school, I designed my own websites for my non-profit, Peace Love Smile, and my online photography portfolio. In summer 2019, I took a Marketing in the Digital Age course at Exploration Summer Programs at Yale. I got to work with the candy company PEZ to help design a product and brainstorm social media marketing strategies to increase their audience. In my junior year, I took a website design class where I learned about the elements of website design. Through these experiences, I realized my love for digital design and advertising. Wanting to start this journey early, I started this business. I work daily to enhance my knowledge on design, marketing, and advertising and am motivated to make your website to tell your story in a professional way.
In July 2020, I joined the Wix Partner Program to give me an insight on product betas, a community forum, and much more.
Looking to increase my knowledge in marketing, I applied for internships during the summer of 2020. Later, I got hired by Beagle Drones to have a hands-on experience through running their Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn while also learning about social media marketing. I work to increase Beagle Drones' follower count, engagement, and sales. I interact with customers through direct message as customer support and create posts for their social media platforms while using marketing strategies to grow the business.
For several years, I have taken photo classes at Exploration Summer Programs at both Yale and Wellesley, throughout middle school, and during high school. Over time, I have been able to develop my skills through Lightroom, Photoshop, and both film and digital photography. At school, my photography class gets the privilege to work in a darkroom. In 2018 and 2019, I was honored with receiving two silver keys and two honorable mentions total from the Scholastics Art and Writing awards, one of the most prestigious awards for high school artists. I recently started event photography and truly love being able to capture the special moments in people's lives. I've taken photos for birthday parties, family portraits, pre-bat mitzvah photoshoots, product photography, and many more.
In March 2020, I joined a photography Facebook Group called Featured Nation. This group, that acts more like a community, has weekly challenges with a common theme for photographers from beginner to professional. I offered to make a Lightroom Basics tutorial for them. Although I was the youngest in this group of 500+ members, I was offered a job to become a staff member and a challenge judge. As a staff member, I manage their Instagram and help run the Facebook Group. My goal is to continue to build this community to thousands of members. I am grateful to be a part of this community because it has given me a new perspective outside the classroom.
Nonprofit Organization & Community Service
Since fifth grade, helping the community has been a significant part of my life. My nonprofit organization, Peace Love Smile, tries to spread peace in people's lives, share love throughout the community, and create a smile on someone's face through stuffed animals, cooking, and kindness. My love for stuffed animals as a little girl and cooking skills as a teenager helped expand this nonprofit to act as an umbrella for four corresponding divisions: Peace Love Eat, Peace Love Comfort, Peace Love Kindness, and Peace Love Communiteens. I have been recognized in several publications:The Miami Herald, Our City Pembroke Pines, and Our City News. I have also won several awards such as Semi-Finalist for the Prudential Spirit Award at school for both 2018 and 2019, Points of Light Award in 2019, and finalist for the Hands On Broward Youth Impact Award in 2018.
At school, I participate in seven clubs such as Make-A-Wish, National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society, Photography Club and my own club, Communiteens. I host meetings bi-weekly for Communiteens Club with 40+ club members. My leadership skills and dedication to service allows me to make an impact in the community in a meaningful way.
